![]() ![]() I think we may have been one of the only people renting at all on Thursday and it was quiet and peaceful. Thursday was awesome because nobody was beside us in the other side of the duplex. We came down for a wedding and stayed Thursday and Friday. It is good, just don't go there if you are in a hurry. However, the service was very slow, even though the restaurant was never crowded. Thre is a restaurant on-site, and the food is good and reasonably priced. We wouuld definitely stay here again, it is the nicest cabin we have ever stayed at. The cabins are no-smoking, and sometimes at no-smoking places you will see an assortment of disgusting cigarette butts outside, but not here. The grounds of this park are kept very clean. The tv was an older model but got good reception and had a good selection of channels to choose from (satellite dish). There was a nice kitchen table/charis, which we didn't use, but would come in handy for a family who wanted to eat in. The kitchen area had a small refrigerator and microwave and both came in handy for leftovers. The bathroom was well supplied and we had plenty of hot water. We loved sitting on the deck and watching the boats and barges on the river. It was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Could hear some footsteps and doors closing, but no big deal. Yes, you can hear some noises from the other attached cabin, but we really weren't bothered. More like $100.My husband and I stayed in one of the cabins for two nights (Saturday and Sunday). This cabin has a for sale sign out front & it just seems the owners are just letting it go "as is". Will def go back to Shawnee Forest but will find another place to stay. If you visit this area bring a cooler of food! Grocery stores are hard to find! We ate at the lodge restaurant the first night but not a fan so after a day of hiking we went into Elizabethtown to pick up groceries. The kitchen is in the basement, which if there were a TV, we would have just stayed down there. The beds were hard as rock & older rough cotton sheets. There were air fresheners to disguise the smell but those made it even worse. You could smell the water must as soon as you walked in. The stairs to the water are only rusted rails missing steps. There was a beautiful swing on the back deck facing the Ohio river but the trees that could easily be clipped were obstructing the view. I dont like giving bad reviews but this cabin is in need of some TLC! The upper deck has a sign to not go out on! Lights were burned out, heaters did not work, the 2 houses across from the cabin were scary looking. When we were finished with our lunch the restaurant was full with no empty tables. Sadly this years winter hrs are Fri, Sat & Sun. We usually enjoy these on the patio but was too chilly on this visit. Beer, wine & mixed drinks are also available. Coke products, tea, coffee & water are available. The cake was very moist & frosty was creamy with plenty of fresh pecans. The buffet included strawberry cake, butterfinger cake, coconut cake & butter pecan cake. There was also orange fluffy salad & possiblemorher offerings our table did not sample because we were saving room for desert. The bar also included slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad, broccoli salad which all tasted home made. ![]() The salad bar served a mix of leafy greens, very good tomatoes pcs, cucumber, green pepper slices, shredded cheese, croutons with a good variety of dressings. Mac & cheese, spinach, creamed corn, white gravy and rolls were also offered. The fried okra was tender on the inside & crispy on the outside. Vegetable soup had large pcs of tender beef roast with vegetables. The greenbeans were cooked with onions & pork. The meatloaf was tender & seasoned perfectly with extra sauce on the side. The fried chicken & fish were piping hot & crispy. We had an excellent lunch! We were the only diners when we seated ourselves.
